Lexique hydrométéorologique de l'égyptien ancien : description terminologique et approche sur corpus

Cette thèse propose une étude lexicographique de la terminologie des hydrométéores en égyptien ancien, notion plus englobante que « précipitations ». Sur un corpus diachronique (Ancien Empire–Troisième Période Intermédiaire), l'analyse, fondée sur le Sentier lexical, (axes graphématique, phonématique, morphémique, syntagmatique, sémantique), examine ḥw.t « pluie », ỉgp « nuage » et ỉȝd.t « rosée ». Le signe N4 est traité comme indice grapho sémantique majeur. Les résultats montrent: (i) ḥw.t, lié à ḥwỉ « frapper/jeter », sert au Nouvel Empire de marqueur de faveur et de légitimation; (ii) ỉgp fonctionne comme véhicule céleste, obstacle à dissiper (contextes magico rituels) et métaphore de conquête (« nuage d'eau »), surtout au Moyen Empire; (iii) ỉȝd.t, hautement spécialisé, est central en iatromagie (sḏr n ỉȝd.t) et converge parfois avec ỉd.t « parfum ». L'ensemble cartographie un domaine multimodal, étroitement arrimé à cosmologie, religion et idéologie royale (Maat).

A Lexical Trail of Hydrometeors: a Corpus-based Study of Atmospheric Waters Terminology in Ancient Egyptian

This thesis proposes a lexicographic study of the terminology of hydrometeors in ancient Egyptian, a notion more encompassing than "precipitation". On a diachronic corpus (Old Kingdom–Third Intermediate Period), the analysis, based on the Lexical Path (graphematic, phonematic, morphemic, syntagmatic, semantic axes), examines ḥw.t "rain", ỉgp "cloud" and ỉȝd.t "dew". The N4 sign is treated as a major graphosemantic index. The results show: (i) ḥw.t, related to ḥwỉ "to hit/throw", served in the New Kingdom as a marker of favor and legitimation; (ii) ỉgp functions as a celestial vehicle, an obstacle to be dispelled (magicoritual contexts) and a metaphor of conquest ("cloud of water"), especially in the Middle Kingdom; (iii) ỉȝd.t, highly specialized, is central to iatromagic (sḏr n ỉȝd.t) and sometimes converges with ỉd.t "perfume". The whole maps a multimodal domain, closely linked to cosmology, religion and royal ideology (Maat).
