Bibliothèque de l'École des Hautes Études, Sciences religieuses Series
Founded in 1889 and comprising some two hundred volumes, this series reflects the diversity of research and teaching carried out within the Religious Studies Section of the EPHE-PSL.
In the spirit of the section's commitment to the scientific, secular and pluralist study of religious facts, this collection reflects the diversity of religions and cultural areas studied, as well as the plurality of disciplines practiced: philology, archaeology, history, philosophy, anthropology, sociology and law. With the high level of specialization and erudition that characterizes the studies carried out at the EPHE-PSL, the Bibliothèque de l'École des Hautes Études, Sciences religieuses series tackles both ancient religions that have disappeared and contemporary ones, and focuses on the historical, philosophical and theological originality of the three great monotheisms—Judaism, Christianity and Islam—as well as on the religious diversity in India, Tibet, China, Japan, Africa and America, and in ancient Mesopotamia, Egypt, Greece and Rome.
This series isn’t forgetting either the study of religious margins and forms of dissidence, or the analysis of the very ways in which people leave religion behind.
The books are authored by leading French and foreign specialists in the field of religious studies (EPHE lecturers, alumni and visiting scholars).
