International Students. International Programs and Double Degrees

International Master's Programs

The Master's degrees in Art History and Archaeology and Civilisations, Cultures and Societies, offered by EPHE-PSL, provide three international programs in partnership with Italian universities:

  • Archaeology and Art History program of the Master's in Art History and Archaeology, in partnership with the University of Basilicata in Matera.
  • Arts, Museology, Curatorial Activities program of the Master's in Art History and Archaeology, in partnership with the University of Bologna.
  • Political and Cultural History of Medieval, Modern and Contemporary Europe program of the Master's in Civilisations, Cultures and Societies, in partnership with the University of Pisa.

Important notes

Students can complete part of their studies at EPHE-PSL and obtain two master's degrees, one awarded from their home university and one from PSL University.

Mobility for international students enrolled on one of these three programs is supported by the Erasmus+ program and managed by their home institution in Italy.

=> Contact the International Relations Department for assistance with organising your arrival in France.

International Joint PhD Supervision

International joint PhD supervision promotes the mobility of doctoral students by fostering scientific collaboration between French and international research teams.

Any French higher education institution authorised to award the national PhD degree can enter into an agreement with a foreign higher education institution that has equivalent authorisation in its own country to organise the joint supervision of a doctoral student.

Students under joint supervision carry out their work under the supervision of a thesis director in each of the two countries involved, defend their thesis only once, and obtain two PhD degrees.

Each international joint PhD supervision takes place within the framework of an individual agreement between the two institutions and the doctoral student, in compliance with the principle of reciprocity.

International joint PhD supervision does not necessarily lead to funding. International students enrolled at a foreign higher education institution who wish to arrange international joint PhD supervision with EPHE-PSL must first obtain the agreement of the EPHE professor who will co-direct their research, and then contact the International Relations Department to set arrange this.
