International Joint PhD Supervision
International joint PhD supervision is a mechanism that promotes the mobility of doctoral students by fostering scientific collaboration between French and international research teams.
Any French higher education institution authorised to award the national PhD degree can conclude an agreement with a foreign higher education institution that has the same prerogatives in its country to organize international joint PhD supervision for the joint supervision of a doctoral student
Students under joint supervision carry out their work under the supervision of a thesis director in each of the two countries involved, defend their thesis only once, and obtain two PhD degrees.
Each international joint PhD is conducted within the framework of an individual agreement between the two institutions and the doctoral student, in compliance with the principle of reciprocity.
International joint PhD supervision does not necessarily lead to funding.
EPHE-PSL students who wish to arrange international joint PhD supervision with EPHE-PSL should refer to the procedure outlined in the Outgoing International Joint PhD Supervision FAQs.
