Genome Integrity and Cancers - UMR 9019
Gustave Roussy (GR), Europe's leading cancer center located in Villejuif (Val de Marne), is developing an integrated approach between research, care and teaching for the benefit of patients. It brings together expertise for high-level cancer research (fundamental, translational, and clinical).
Within GR's laboratories, the Joint Research Unit (UMR) 9019 was created in January 2020 and renewed in 2026, under the supervision of the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS), Paris-Saclay University, GR, and EPHE. Entitled Genome Integrity and Cancers, this UMR comprises seven teams (including three ATIP-Avenir) conducting research on the biological processes that ensure the maintenance and transmission of genetic and epigenetic information, and the consequences of dysfunction on oncogenesis.
The Unit's project aims to better understand the mechanisms of:
- DNA replication and repair, mutagenesis, recombination, oxidative stress in response to DNA damage, as well as the consequences on the cell cycle,
- resistance to anticancer treatments that target DNA,
- genetic instability impacting the immune response,
- and those involved in genetic predisposition to cancer.
This research mobilizes a wide range of experimental techniques in cellular and molecular biology, cellular imaging, as well as whole-genome approaches in genomics and proteomics, in a continuum of biological models ranging from yeast to mammalian cells to tumor samples.
