Languages and Cultures of Oral Traditions - LACITO, UMR 7107
The "Languages and Cultures of Oral Traditions" Unit (LACITO, UMR 7107), jointly administered by the Sorbonne Nouvelle and INALCO, is a multidisciplinary research center dedicated to the study of languages and civilizations with oral traditions. Its research, based on fieldwork among speaker communities, focuses in particular on minority languages in multilingual contexts. The unit analyzes and models linguistic diversity by taking into account its historical, geographical, and social determinants. In response to the rapid erosion of languages and cultures, LACITO also develops innovative methods, particularly digital ones, to document and preserve this endangered heritage.
