The Institut de Neurosciences Cognitives et Intégratives d’Aquitaine (INCIA) is a joint research unit of the CNRS and the University of Bordeaux. Within this laboratory, researchers are interested in understanding brain functions in humans and animals, both under normal conditions and in the development of neurological and psychiatric pathologies. The goal is to study an important characteristic of the brain: its ability to use sensory information from its environment to effectively adapt its behavior.

Several research areas are represented: some teams focus on the study of simple motor functions, such as movement or breathing, while others focus on cognitive functions in more complex models such as development and aging, decision-making, or vulnerability to addiction. These research themes are examined at various levels: from molecular research to preclinical behavioral aspects and clinical imaging studies.

The Institute offers a range of diverse and multidisciplinary experimental approaches: molecular biology, biochemistry, extracellular electrophysiology and, on a larger scale, fluorescence imaging, computational neuroscience, animal behavior, human brain imaging, psychophysics and clinical investigations, etc.
