History and Civilization
The programs allow students to deepen their knowledge in fields such as diplomacy, paleography, papyrology, epigraphy, numismatics, or codicology, or in specific cultural areas such as the ancient and medieval Near East, Egypt, Central Asia, or the Far East.
Other programs may correspond to disciplinary groups.
Taught by more than 80 professors and researchers from the Department of Historical and Philological Sciences, these programs present cross-disciplinary studies on the circulation of objects or collections in different cultural areas. Thus, the study of books can be conducted in fields such as the history of Hebrew, Arabic, Greek, Byzantine, Latin, and French manuscripts, and the history of the printed book in Europe and China.
New approaches in digital humanities and heritage studies have been developed for several years. These courses are provided at the Sorbonne, at the Condorcet Campus, at the National Institute of Art History, where directors of studies specializing in art history and archaeology are grouped, as well as at the Maison de l’Asie.
