Project summary

The project aims to analyze and process the stampings that reproduce the inscriptions engraved on the thousands of donation stelae erected in Vietnamese villages from the sixteenth to the twentieth century. Written in local Chinese interspersed with vernacular scripts, these inscriptions open up new perspectives for writing a history of religious beliefs, the economy and the social structures of the rural world.
