Neuropsychology and Imaging of Human Memory - NIMH, UMR 1077

The unit studies the normal functioning of human memory, its development, and its disorders in neurological diseases and psychiatric syndromes. Research focuses primarily on Alzheimer's disease and related syndromes, amnestic syndromes, neurodevelopmental pathologies, and post-traumatic stress disorder. The study of memory is approached through a multidisciplinary approach that uniquely combines neuroscience (brain imaging and physiological parameter measurements) with the humanities and social sciences. The work conducted here is part of applied research aimed at improving diagnostic procedures and criteria, as well as developing and evaluating innovative, evidence-based treatments.

The unit comprises three supervisory bodies: the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research (Inserm), the École Pratique des Hautes Études (EPHE-PSL) and the University of Caen Normandy. It is located in Caen where it benefits from access to the functionalities of the Cyceron biomedical imaging platform of which it is an integral part.

It is structured around two main research axes: 1) Neurological diseases and Neuroplasticity and 2) Mental health throughout life. Created since January 1, 2002, it now brings together more than 90 people: researchers, professors, doctoral students, post-doctoral fellows, engineers and research technicians and administrative staff.
