Launch of “Recherche Data EPHE - PSL,” a platform for sharing and opening up research data
Last October, the École Pratique des Hautes Études - PSL opened its new data warehouse, “Recherche Data EPHE - PSL,” continuing its commitment to open science with nearly 22 datasets already deposited. Here's a look back at this innovative initiative, which serves our scientific community and is set to expand in 2026.
A repository registered in a national institutional environment
Opened within Recherche Data PSL, this repository offers a solution for sharing and disseminating research data and corpora produced by or in collaboration with the EPHE-PSL's scientific community. It is primarily intended for researchers who do not have a recognized disciplinary or thematic repository. In line with the second pillar of the French Plan for Open Science, it is part of the national Recherche Data Gouv ecosystem, launched by MESRI in 2022. Based on an open-source and sovereign technical foundation, it currently guarantees secure hosting for a minimum of five years, renewable after publication of the data, and is seeking certification (trusted repository).
The platform supports all types of file formats and allows for structured data description, while complying with exchange standards. It also allows users to choose the level of sharing and to link datasets to other resources such as scientific publications. For example, researchers can link their articles, published in online journals or deposited in HAL - EPHE, to the corresponding data or corpora shared on Recherche Data EPHE - PSL. Finally, published data are assigned a DOI (Digital Object Identifier), a unique and permanent identifier.

In collaboration with PSL's research data administrator, the Open Science and Valorization Center supports you in your projects to open up your research data.
The national Recherche Data Gouv website, which hosts Recherche Data EPHE - PSL, provides both a generic repository and institutional repositories, as well as skills and resource centers to support researchers and research contributors. Among other things, it offers online help, live virtual classes (particularly for learning how to submit data), as well as guides, tutorials, and frequently asked questions.
