Environmental Media, Transfers and Interactions in Hydrosystems and Soils - METIS, UMR 7619
The METIS Joint Research Unit (Environmental Media, Transfers and Interactions in Hydrosystems and Soils) was created in January 2014 and is located on the Pierre and Marie Curie campus of Sorbonne University. It includes staff from Sorbonne University, the CNRS, and the EPHE-PSL.
The METIS Joint Research Unit focuses on the physical and biogeochemical functioning of continental environments, both on the surface (soils and waters) and in the depths (aquifers/aquitards, critical zone), and their potential evolution under various natural and anthropogenic forcings (contamination, resource use, environmental modification, morphological changes, climate, etc.). Its research themes are interdisciplinary and multi-environmental (atmosphere, water, soil, unsaturated and saturated zone) and are part of the field of Continental Surfaces and Interfaces and the Critical Zone. They draw on strong expertise in hydrology, hydrogeology, geophysics, and several areas of biogeochemistry (element cycling, characterization of organic matter and micropollutants, etc.), as well as in modeling.
The METIS Joint Research Unit comprises five teams: DYNAMO, Hydrosystems, Geophysics, SO(i)LS, and TRACES. All EPHE staff at the Joint Research Unit are involved in the TRACES team, which focuses on the transfer of organic contaminants and trace inorganic compounds in the environment and their impacts on ecosystems.
